Chamini Kulathunga is a Sri Lankan writer, editor, and translator. She translates between Sinhalese and English, and has collaborated with writers and translators of the Hebrew, Turkish, Spanish, and Nepali. She edits English creative writing pieces/manuscripts and translations into English from all languages.

Chamini is a graduate of Iowa Translation Workshop, and a visiting fellow at Cornell University’s South Asia Program in the Summer of 2019. Chamini was a former Blog Editor and an editorial board member at Exchanges: Journal of Literary Translation, and is the current Media and Events Editor at The Song Bridge Project, a nonprofit publisher of translated literature based in Iowa City. She is also Asymptote‘s Editor-at-Large for Sri Lanka.

Her translations, interviews, and writings have appeared and are forthcoming in World Literature Today, The Los Angeles Review of Books, The Los Angeles Review, The Massachusetts Review, Asymptote, Project Plume, Exchanges, Hopscotch Translation, DoubleSpeak, Bengaluru Review and elsewhere.

Chamini is the translator of the first banned book in Sri Lanka, Cogwheel Buddha, and a champion of minority literatures.
